I've been trying to find the source of this random misfire for a couple weeks now. Replaced the plugs, inspected for vacuum leaks, tested the coil pack and ignition control module and MAF sensor with a multimeter meter and although I'm not super experienced with using one I believe everything was fine. When all this first occurred, I had 2 codes: p0171 and p0300. After replacing the upstream o2 sensor near the manifold I noticed that the accordion style flex pipe looking piece connecting the exhaust to the manifold had a huge hole in it. Like it was about to fall off. So, I got that all fixed and the p0171 code went away but still the p0300 random misfire remains and now a new code along with it (p0128). From what I can gather this is a bad thermostat. I'm trying to be thorough and not forget anything, so I want to add that I also checked the fuel filter. It was a little dirty but not clogged. Unfortunately, I was not able to change it because of financial reasons or I would have just because it looks pretty old. Took the fuel injectors out and cleaned and tested them and they were fine. I got a digital pressure gauge from work and tested the fuel pressure and finally got what I believe is a small clue. Pressure drops when RPMs are increased and when I turn the vehicle off it also drops extremely low. So, the question is, where to go from here because I'm not exactly sure what to do next. Fuel pump? Fuel pressure sensor/regulator? Or am I off base altogether? Any help would be extremely appreciated as this is our only vehicle right now. I hope I didn't forget any useful info.
