Hello, i'm in desperate need of advice. The other morning I was unable to start my car. I scanned the codes and I have misfires catalyst system below threshold. When I sprayed starter fluid I realized the fuel pump was bad. We took it the mechanic and they replaced my fuel pump. $500.00 later my wife picked up the car and noticed that the check engine light was still on. She went back and they cleared the codes. When it was time for her to get me the check engine lights came back on and the car was stuck in limp mode. The mechanic is one minute away from our house and we had no transmission issues before. When I got home I scanned the codes and was surprised to see codes 888 882 700 and 706. The mechanic is refusing to take responsibility for these issues. So the next day I was on my way to my family mechanic who works for AAA. On the highway the car lost all power and broke. We had it towed to the dealer for diagnosis only. They claimed the new pump was bad. The bill was $130.00 and the mechanic refuses to pay or help tow the car back to him. My problems is those transmission codes make no sense. The dealer also mention damaged harness wires to the fuel pump. Do you happen to have any advice on this situation?

Good afternoon,

The fuel pump has no connection to the transmission codes. They are separate.

As far as the shop that did the work, if you paid by credit card, stop the payment through the card. If you paid by check, stop payment on the check. It has to be within 30 days.

As far as the fuel pump, if the wires are damaged, it may not be the pump. Did the dealer verify it was definitely the pump?

Looks like you have a wiring harness issue with the transmission. None of the codes are related to the fuel pump.

Roy

700

General transmission code. It means there is another code set.

706 is below. This looks like a wiring issue.

888 is below as well.

882 is the same as 88.

Thanks for the quick reply. I paid cash for the job. Dealer said for sure it was the pump. But I just find it strange I never had those codes I checked all the wires and didn't see any damage. The limp mode happened right after she pulled out from the repair, so I am trying to see if the job they did could have caused those codes. I did notice the output speed sensor clip was broken but it was still in place. So if there's a wiring issue what would be the best place to look? I checked the wires for speed and range sensors and they seemed fine. I am scared to bring it back there because I feel like they were trying to take advantage of her. We never had limp mode before the repair.

You will need a test light and a voltmeter to do some testing.

I attached a wiring diagram for you to view. Check the 3 fuses listed in the one diagram. This is not a visual test, it is a power test. Use a test light and check for power on both sides of the fuse.

So wanted to update I paid the 130 to get the car back from the dealer. They determined the fuel pump was bad and can't explain the transmission codes because it doesnt run. We towed it back to the mechanic and he replaced the fuel pump again. He claimed the car ran out of gas and the sensor for the gas tank wasnt reading properly and that it was broken. We put 15 in gas and 40 minutes of driving was when the car broke down. He fixed the wire for free. We also supplied the broken speed sensor connector and he replaced it for free. However the car is still in limp mode with same check engine codes. Hes trying to tell me it could be a bunch of things but is telling me to replace the fuse box. I still cant understand how all this is happening when we never had the limp mode before.

How did he determine it was the fuse box? It sounds like he is guessing.

I would take to a shop that will do a proper diagnostic and check all the things I listed to determine the failure.

So I took it to yet another mechanic they found broke wires and repaired them. The mechanic said its still in limp mode and now only p0700 is on. Hes telling me to take it to a transmission shop. How can just p0700 be on now? Can disonnecting the wires maybe reset everything?

They need a scan tool to clear the code. The 700 is a general transmission code. Usually, there are other codes but this is an information code.

No, there is another code in the transmission. You need to have someone check the codes in the transmission.
