Town & Country (3.8) suddenly started stalling, wouldn't stay running. Replaced Fuel pump & MAP now it.

Initially,
Car was previously driving fine. Made a turn and the car stalled. After stalling the car was extremely difficult to start, but it could be done with constant throttle manipulation, will not idle on its own and not drivable.

Checked the fuel pressure, read 3psi with key on. Replaced the fuel pump and filter - still same difficult to start, will not idle. Will not drive.

Now IAC motor was humming, unplugged it and it stopped. Tried good IAC from different van no help.

Went to go get (brother-in-laws) computer to read what codes we had. (Now, I am going off of memory here on the code numbers. My brother-in-law is the mechanic and the codes/terms mean a lot more to him than me. I am just trying to recollect as best I can)

Tried unhooking the battery for five minutes, retried with no differences. Only one time when trying to start the car did it idle/rev fine. We did not drive it during this time. But it stayed idling and revved fine until we turned the car off. This was not reproduced when we tried starting it again. It continued after this same difficult to start, will not idle. Will not drive.

Codes thrown were (I think) P106, P107 and another that I cannot remember.

We tried unhooking the negative for five minutes, same difficult to start, will not idle. Will not drive. Same codes (P106, P107) showed up.

My brother-in-law replaced the MAP sensor this morning. Car would start and idle. Car revved up good. He took it for a drive and it appeared to run fine until he got to 3000-3500 RPM, then it would stall out and Check Engine Light came on.

He did not have the computer on him to check the code and will not be able to get to it until night time today, or tomorrow night.

Does anyone have any advice/experience with these symptoms?

Thank you for your time!

Dan

Open the hood look at the ign coil and to the left of it behind it will be a 12 pin connector attached to the block look at that area for wires being melted together or fluid on it and the rubber insulation on the wires have come apart.

Please find out the third code and post that number here.

Thanks for the response freemba!

The wires, and connector all look fine.

(revision to a more accurate statement when my brother-in-law took the car out. After replacing the MAP sensor)

Earlier, (as I said) my brother in law had the car out running. He said it would start with the turn of the key and idle fine. Until it came to a point where it would die (he said as someone turned the key off). Sometimes it would idle fine for ten minutes or more. When driving it, he said it drove fine except if you pushed on the throttle hard. He also said that if you drove "nice" you wouldn't know anything was wrong. Until it hit 3, 00/3,500 RPM, then it acted like a rev limiter kicked in. Go under that amount. And it was fine.

Fast forward to now. I went over there to inspect the wires/connector (per freemba), I also had intentions on taking to the Auto Parts store to get a free computer reading (just to get a jump on things). I get in the car, start it up. It is not idling great. But stays running. I put it in gear and it dies out. After many tries. None successful to put it in gear and take it for a test drive.

I'm not sure when I'll be able to get the code read. But I'll be sure to post it when I get it.

Thanks,
Dan

Further inspection of the wiring harness (going to MAP and Fuel Injectors) had an area that was brittle and no useful insulation out of the whole bunch of wires. I'm going to look for a replacement harness from the parts stores and through the junkyards.

The third code was p124.

The main computer is still throwing out good codes, I disconnected the battery until I can replace the harness.

I'll post an update. Hopefully this was it.

Thanks for the help !
