Hi. A couple weeks back, it started shaking pretty badly, especially in lower rpm's, and was throwing a code for a cylinder three misfire. I have replaced the spark plug, and the fuel injector. It is now starting to lose acceleration pretty badly, and make an awful noise. I just need some help on what I may need to do to fix it from here.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Is the misfire gone? As far as the power loss, the first thing that comes to mind is a plugged catalytic converter. If the misfire was allowing raw fuel to enter the exhaust, it could have damaged the converter.

What kind of noise are you hearing? Has the check engine light come back on? Was the only code saved when the original problem started a P0303?

Can you describe the noise to me? If possible, can you record the sound and upload it for me to hear?

Here is a link that explains symptoms of a bad catalytic converter. The second link explains how to test one. It shows the converter being disconnected from the system. However, if you remove the upstream oxygen sensor (before the converter) it can help. It won't run perfect, but if there is a restriction, you should notice a difference.

Here is the test:

Let me know what you find.

Thank you! It is now throwing a p0300. The noise is kind of like a tick and a whine mixture. The weird this is I can drive it for like 2 miles or so without any issues, and then after that, It starts acting up again. I will try the catalytic converter test tomorrow.

Welcome back, and sorry for the delayed response.

That is interesting now that you have a random misfire issue. Once you check the converter, let me know the results. It could be related to an engine vacuum leak, faulty crankshaft position sensor and a few other things.

Let me know.

Take care,
Joe
