I bought this truck with a crank no start issue someone has cut the converters off of it so I was going to make sure I could get it running before pouring all this money into it. Okay, so, I first put a code reader on it, it was showing camshaft sensor bank 2. I changed the sensor and erased the code but still crank no start. I ran the code reader again no camshaft code but now it’s showing a U1001 no communication with the TCM. So, I borrowed a buddies code reader. It’s showing the same cam sensor that I changed and the TCM code and two converter codes. When you crank it the RPM gauge moves you can unplug the crank sensor it doesn’t move any more. So, I know it’s at least communicating with me myself I’m thinking it’s the ECM. What do you think?

Yep, I think the ECM might be bad, but with the systems on I would check the fuses for power. This guide can help (ignition on):

If all fuses are okay I would try replacing the ECM, you can get a preprogrammed unit by searching Google or Ebay. I can tell you I have seen the IPDM go out on these trucks and cause this issue as well, you will see many fuses without power letting you know this is the problem. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

Where would I start or what would I check and what would I check for exactly to confirm it’s the ECU? Do you have a wiring diagram with the 5v references?

How does the engine sounds when cranking does it seem normal? this video can help:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXLJbuAZ4CE&t

I would see if the engine will run on starting fluid. If you upload a short video of the engine cranking over so I can see if the engine is hurt or not. Here is the wiring diagrams for the ECU so you can do some testing. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.

It will not hit at all even with starting fluid I pulled one of the coils it’s not putting out any spark but the connector going to the coil has three wires one wire has 12v but the other two wire are grounds is that the way it’s supposed to be? And the truck is cranking normal it hasn’t jumped time or anything I have some experience with mechanical work, but I’m completely lost when it comes to electrical work.

No problem, only the black wire should be ground but you must check it while the connector is off of the coil. With the key on the green wire should be power 12 volts, the other two wires are signal/trigger wires.

Can you walk me through step-by-step to help me troubleshoot this thing because I have no idea what I’m doing or where to start what to check or what to check for when it comes to any kind of electrical work, and I really appreciate you helping me.

There is a change the TCM grounds are no good, but this is rare. I would replace the TCM with a rebuilt unit. You can get a preprogrammed unit by searching Google or Ebay. Here is the location of the TCM and how to replace it. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
