For about a month now, the car starts and runs great, shut it off, then have to wait about an hour before it will start again. Cranks but won't start. This morning it started just fine then shut off after about 5 minutes. Now it won't start at all. Still cranks.

Hi,

What you described sounds like a failing crankshaft position sensor. When they begin failing, they can be adversely affected by heat. Once they cool, they can work again.

Do me a favor. Take a look through this link and let me know if it mirrors what you are experiencing:

I attached a pic below of the sensor's location.

Let me know.

Joe

I had the same thought. My stepson is a mobile mechanic. He came over and scanned the car for me. I have no codes. Said he tested both crank sensors and the cam sensor, all were good. But the car started at the time. Should we go through it again now that it won't start at all?

Hi,

Yes, I would suggest it. Also, keep in mind the crankshaft position sensor may fail and not set a code. It isn't uncommon.

If you want, see if there is spark at the plugs. If the sensor is the issue, you won't have spark.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

Let me know.

You were right. I pulled the crankshaft sensor and it had about an inch long crack down the side of it. Put a new one in and she's running like new. Thank you very much for your time and help.
