Crank no start

I bought a new battery today, hooked it up and the car just cranks now but will not start.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com These cars are very touchy and can easily be damaged. A few years back, I had an issue with a customer's C230 which was basically the same as your issue. After a lot of checking, I found that when the new battery was installed, the crank position sensor (CPS) was damaged. Here is what I suggest. First, determine if there is spark to the engine.

I also attached two pictures of the crankshaft position sensor location.
