Hi,

Chances are a component called a potentiometer is bad. This device is what is responsible for determine distance and force. If it is bad, this is one thing that can happen.

However, if you want to try it, they can be reprogrammed, but it requires a scan too which can communicate with specific modules. Here is the relearn / re-calibrate directions. You will note that a scan tool is being used. The attached pics correlate with the directions.

Note! The illustrations in this service information are used for different model years and / or models. Some variation may occur. However, the essential information in the illustrations is always correct.

Preparatory work
The convertible top sensor must be programmed and the values calibrated when the convertible top and the control module are replaced.
The calibration compensates for mechanical play in the convertible top.
If it is not calibrated the result may be mechanical wear and faulty function.
The sensor values are affected by the entire convertible top. Calibration routines are carried out via the Diagnostics II interface with the Volvo Scan Tool (ST). The sensor values are stored in the control module memory.
Each position sensor must be calibrated in the following positions:
- Convertible top potentiometer:
- convertible top folded down
- convertible top folded up.
- Potentiometer for the rear latch:
- when the convertible top is closed and the rear latches are in the resting position i.E. The convertible top is in the storage compartment
- convertible top cover folded up
- when the convertible top is closed and the rear latches are in position to engage the hooks on the tensioner rib
- when the convertible top is closed and the rear latches are in position to fold out the convertible top via the tensioner rib.

Calibration routine
To avoid faulty convertible top positions being stored by mistake, it is important to proceed as follows:
- connect the Volvo Scan Tool (VST) to the data link connection
- ignition on, with battery back-up.
The starting position for calibration is with the convertible top fully packed down. The rear latches must be lowered and the cover must be closed and locked.
- Unlock the cover
- Press ENTER
- Lift up the cover by hand
- Press ENTER
- Lower the rear latches so that they press against the convertible top. They must be stationary
- Save this position by pressing [YES], press [NO] to move to the next or press [EXIT] to end the calibration
- Put the cover down by hand
- Press ENTER
- Open the cover fully using the Volvo Scan Tool (VST)
- Save this position by pressing [YES], press [NO] to move to the next or press [EXIT] to end the calibration
- Lower the convertible top fully
- Save this position by pressing [YES], press [NO] to move to the next or press [EXIT] to end the calibration.

- Open the convertible top completely
- Save this position by pressing [YES], press [NO] to move to the next or press [EXIT] to end the calibration
- Close the front lock for the mechanical stop
- Save this position by pressing [YES], press [NO] to move to the next or press [EXIT] to end the calibration
- Lower the cover fully using the Volvo Scan Tool (VST)
- Press ENTER
- Close the lock for the cover
- Save this position by pressing [YES], press [NO] to move to the next or press [EXIT] to end the calibration
- Press ENTER
- Adjust the rear latches so that they are exactly under the convertible cover.

Adjusting the engagement position
- In the engagement position, the front edge of the lock catch and the edge of the tensioner rib lock side piece must be parallel
- Save this position by pressing [YES], press [NO] to move to the next or press [EXIT] to end the calibration
- Lower the tensioner rib
- Tension the convertible top by operating the rear latches.

Pic 3

- Measure the distance between the fabric and the plastic strip at the lower edge of the rear of the convertible top
- The measurement points are 80 mm inside the longitudinal seam on both sides (A)
- To achieve a seal, there must be a gap of approximately 4 mm between the fabric and the plastic strip (B)
- Save this position by pressing [YES], press [NO] to move to the next or press [EXIT] to end the calibration
- Ignition off
- Ignition on
- Wait
- The calibration of the convertible top is complete
- Check the function.
