What are you trying to reset? If there were any diagnostic fault codes set, but you didn't read and record them, that valuable information is lost. The individual personalities of the sensors will start to be relearned as soon as you start driving. Same with the short and long-term fuel trim numbers. Those start out with factory pre-programmed values, then become modified and adjusted while you drive, without you even noticing.

Many vehicles run special self-tests called "monitors", on different parts of the emissions systems. Those monitors require a specific set of conditions to run. When they are listed as passing on a scanner, that is considered sufficient for that part of emissions testing in most states. The conditions needed for those monitors to run can include such things as a brief burst of wide-open-throttle acceleration, extended highway-speed driving, some coasting, or other similar types of driving. The list of conditions varies a lot between manufacturers, years, and models. Often a visit to the dealer is in order to learn what conditions are required.
