The plastic and springs that hold clutch pedal to the truck broke. So can't access this area easily. I'm realizing I'll need to replace the entire clutch and brake pedal and cast iron housing assembly. If I'm correct in thinking this, do I need to take the dash out to do so? What is the easiest way to replace the actual clutch pedal with another? I thought I'd be slick pull the fender out and cut hole big enough to simply replace with a bolt to act as a hinge for the pedal like most models already have. This allowed to much play in the pedal and now can't get it to bleed properly and only goes in gear when car is off. (Yes I already replace the slave cylinder going to clutch pedal through firewall) still won't go into gear.

Brand new clutch was installed when I noticed pedal was broke then I installed new slave cylinder or whatever it's called that goes to the pedal through firewall. So now bought a brake clutch cast iron assembly. I'm just asking if I have to drop the dash in order to install the assembly I now have

Good morning,

I attached the procedure and the pictures for replacing the pedal itself.

Is this the failure? If not, can you post some pictures of the failure?

Roy

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the master cylinder rod from the clutch pedal.

2. Remove the clutch pedal from the support by depressing the side tabs.

That is correct, but I don't have the plastic/springs that operate like a toilet paper holder and just pop the pedal back into slots. So first I tried making a hinge/bolt that I put in through a hole I made. I don't know what the plastic/springs contraption is called to get a part number to order that. I'd be lucky to have a way of purchasing the parts if I knew to be honest. But I went to salvage yard found another 1999 and ripped the entire dash out to get the brake clutch assembly out. To my surprise, the truck I pulled it from also a 1999 had a bolt here in the same place mine has cheesy plastic and springs.

So 2 questions.

As of right now I have a clutch pedal installed by using a bolt as a hinge for it to swing on, after hooking up the new slave cylinder or whatever it is that runs through firewall, the pedal still has a little play. I've bled it by pumping and holding method several times then also tried cracking open breeder valve at bottom and just continuously pouring fluid up top until it flowed steady and I knew the line was full. Still the car won't go into gear unless off. Would this be because of the little play that I now have in clutch pedal?

Second question.

If my bolt hinge backyard mechanic idea is to loose or could most likely be the reason I can't get good pressure on the clutch. When I go to change out the pedal assembly, is taking dash down and undoing steering column the proper way to go about it?

This a picture of what came out and how it was originally attached. I'm heading out to truck now to take picture of what I have to go back in.

Thank you for your time. While trying to explain the problem and looking at pictures and the truck again I have answered it myself. But if you can tell me the name of the spring loaded black contraption that holds pedal to truck on a 1999 s10 for future reference I'd appreciate it.
