I saw on your site and videos that the culprit is likely the CV joint (boot) but recommend CV axle be changed. How much should each of these jobs cost With labor and parts? I’d like to do axle as recommended but cost is factor and I feel like I get taken advantage of sometimes as a female? Should I go to dealer or any mechanic for this type of job? Thank you very much for all of your invaluable information and time on this website. Carrie

Hi,

In all honesty, it shouldn't be too expensive. You can purchase a new axle at a local parts store for around $100.00. Labor, for one axle, calls for 0.9 hours. So it isn't even an hour labor.

As far as dealership, they will be the most expensive. It is actually something you could do at home.

Here are directions in general that shows how it is done:

I attached a pic below that shows labor time. Again, if you take it to a dealership, they are likely to install an OEM part which could be well over $400.00. If you take it to a local shop (and I don't know where you are or the labor rates there) the entire job should be around $250.00.

Let me know if you have other questions or need help.
