I need to take apart the EGR and clean out the carbon build-up so that I can hopefully get it to pass smog! I am by no means an expert in the art of auto mechanics, but I am no stranger either. I try to do whatever works needs to be done on my cars myself if I am able to (which drives my husband crazy!). That means I am self taught with just about all of what I know, so I don't exactly know some of the right terminology or whatever. But I have never done anything that has to do with the EGR system before, so I am hoping someone can break the process down for me and explain what exactly I need to do to get this job done.
The car is listed above just the basic one, no bells or whistles or any fancy turbo components.
Thank you in advance for all help offered.

Good evening,

Why are you doing this cleaning? Is there a code that you are trying to get out of the system?

The EGR valve can only be cleaned on the surface of the bottom. The real area that gets carboned up is not accessible for cleaning.

It got a code so I was told to try and clean it as best I could to try and pass smog. But I also found a vacuum hose with a hole in it so I replaced it and light went off so hopefully all is well. Thank you for your response!
