I had this transmission rebuilt back in March 09. Drove it from Central New York to Orlando Florida Dec 09. I started having a problem with no exceleration and the van not having any drive or reverse. When shutting the van off for a few minutes the van would be drivable untill a few days later we had nothing. No check engine light at all. We had the transmission checked and had to have it rebuilt again, 12/30/09. Drove it back to New York on 1/12/10. While driving around the 13 hour range, VA/NC boarder I heard a noise then lost exceleration, mph's when from 70 to 0. When getting to the side of the road, 20mph the transmission went. You could hear parts grinding and rattaling around, then the car locked up. Check engine light never came on. I have it at the Orlando transmmision center at this time. They gave me a 12/12000 warrenty on the rebuilt but now are saying that I have a cracked case. Could this be caused by the work done from the rebuilt the second time around?

A small bolt broke allowing a large pin to slide out of the differential. That pin caught on the housing as the assembly was rotating. The transmission guys have seen this many times before. The small bolt should have been replaced during the last rebuild. This happened to my mother's '95 Grand Caravan. It was already a replacement transmission, but was about 4 years old. The dealership where I worked would honor the warranty on the rebuild regardless of the cause of the failure. Not sure what the policy is from an independent repair shop, but I would expect them to take care of the repair if it's still within the time and mileage limits.
