I had my mechanic replace my transmission cooler lines because I was told by two different mechanics that they were rusted and were the source of my leak. I do have two transmission coolers. There is still a leak. I went back to the mechanic who replaced the lines and he said there was a bad clamp. The leak is still there. What could be the problem? My mechanic is stumped. Does the transmisssion cooler have to be replaced?

It is around the front bumper on the driver side and towards the middle. It seems more concentrated on the drivers side front. The mechanic says the transmission fluid runs to the lowest part and then drips. They have not been able to determine exactly where the drips are originating from.

I question if it is the trans lines, or was the trans lines. In the front of the transmission (right above the trans pan) is the Trans Control Module (TCM). Most times they will leak, run down the side of the trans and drip off the trans pan (which is located where you mentioned). I would check that and also, make sure the trans pan itself isn't leaking. That isn't an uncommon problem. When the engine is cold, take a can of brake cleaner and spray off the area that is wet with ATF and wipe it dry. Brake cleaner will remove all the oil and it drys fast Drive the car for awhile and then recheck it to see if you can tell where it is coming from. If not the pan, my guess is the TCM.

Let me know what you find.

Joe
