I have a 1996 chrysler cirrus lxi that is leaking water. I was told it the water pump needed to be replaced. However when I had the car looked at by a mechanic, he told me that a pipe connected to the water pump was cracked and would need to be replaced first. Can you tell me specifically what the name of this pipe is?

Water (sometimes called coolant) inlet pipe. Goes from the back of the water pump to the rear of the engine, thermostat housing.

In either case, if the WP has not been replaced in a while, replace it along with the timing belt. It makes sense to replace everything to reduce future labor cost.
