My car makes a loud clicking sound when I start it. I know that it is the starter not fully disengaging so I replaced the starter and sylinoid and its still making the sound. Could the problem be in the ignition switch? Also note that the car starts its not the sylinoid clicking its the starter moter gear and the flywheel making the clanking noise I know this because the old starter shows clear evidence of damage. I also had trouble with the lock cylinder freezing up and had to drill the thing out could this have damaged the ignition switch and caused this problem?

Hi there,

check that there is 12V the starter solinoid with the key on crank, ensure that there is 12V at the main starter terminal, check all battery terminals are clean and tight check earths clean and tight, if all is OK, the starter is faulty.
