My car is having issues. First time I had the cruise control set and the cruise just shut off. I went to hit the gas pedal and I had no acceleration. I coasted to a stop and my car died. We towed it home later that day and it ran just fine for 2 weeks around town. I took it out of town this weekend, got to my destination (80 miles) just fine with no issues. I left 2 days later and 15 miles out of town my car lost acceleration again, I pulled over and my car did NOT die this time. It wanted to but it didnt. I shut it off. About an hour later we went to start it. It started a little rough, but we hit the gas and it snapped out of it. Any suggestions as to what this is?

No the check engine light never came on when it was acting up. It is in the shop now getting the fuel pump replaced. I hope that is what it is. (For $ 600.00 it better be;)

If they checked fuel pump pressure and it was low, that is most likely the problem unless the filter plugged.

That seems like a lot of money. The part is under 200.00 dollars so that leaved 400.00 in labor. How many hours are they charging you for? Also, make sure they replace the fuel filter at the same time.

The part was $345 according to them. And you think it would be common sense to change the filter when you are changing the pump, right? Maybe some people are lacking in the common sense department tho. They should know to change the filter, they are mechanics. They are charging me $150 labor and the rest is for the tow when they had to tow it back to town when it died on the mechanic that was taking it for a test run.(I really shouldnt have to pay for the tow)

I just thought I would mention the cost. I don't like to see people get taken advantage of. I'm not allowed to permote brands, stores. But I checked a well known nationally recognized parts store and found the pump for 181.00. That is why I mentioned it. Regardless, I would just mention the fuel filter to them. They may not replace it unless you ask.

Let me know if the repair takes care of the problem.
