I had the serpentine belt in my car changed today, as I thought this may be the cause of the noise coming from my car. But when I put it in reverse, and really only ever when it's in reverse, it chirps very loudly. Sometimes even when I'm at a stop light, it'll lightly chirp. Any ideas? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

The idea that it does it in reverse leads me to believe it could be related to a bad engine mount. Do me a favor. In a safe place, park on a flat surface. Open the hood, apply the parking brake, and then have a helper start the engine. Have the helper place the vehicle in reverse and hold his foot on the brake and apply a small amount of throttle to load the engine. While that happens, watch the engine to see if it moves more than seems normal. Pay attention to when it shifts from park to reverse to see movement. Also, do the same in drive to see. Just don't get in the way of the vehicle when checking. I don't need you to be run over in the event the brake fails. LOL

You can record it and upload it for me to see.

Here is a link that describes motor mounts:

Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care and God Bless,

Joe

Hey Joe! Thanks for responding to my inquiry. So I didn’t do quite what you asked, but I did take a video of it in drive, park and lastly reverse. You can kind of hear how the noise shifts a little differently between gears. Hopefully this helps? Please let me know if I can record anything else. I figured to grab this video while I was driving, as I’d remembered your response and wanted to get it while it was happening.

Hi,

I listened to the video. I'm not able to hear a chirping sound. Are you able to try the test I suggested?

Let me know.

Joe
