I have an intermittent issue. Usually, it lasts a few days and then is gone for a week, and then returns. It is a chirping sound located right where the engine and transmission combine. Sometimes it is quiet, other times it is embarrassingly loud.

My usual mechanic thinks it may be the flex plate. Does this sound right?

Hi,

It is very possible the flex plate. It may be cracked and touching something at times and not at other times. There are other things that can cause it, but it would likely be noisy at all times.

Is there anything you can do to change the sound? For example, if you rev the engine, does it start or stop? Does the sound follow the engine speed? Does it happen regardless if you are in park or gear? Is the transmission shifting properly?

Let me know.

Joe
