That's great advice by BMRFIXIT, and he is correct.
However, if you just remove the exhaust crossover heatshield, you can remove the thermostat housing. It may be a bit awkward to remove the thermostat bolts, but it is definately manageable and better than trying to remove rusted bolts and nuts on the exhaust.
