Reverse lights

I have a 1998 chevy pick-up full size, it has 225000 miles and it is a 4.3 liter. It is in very good shape. I have one small problem though. My reverse lights are on when it is in drive, actually all the time, how can I fix this or what is wrong? Thanks

It is probably the transmission range switch, on the left side of the tranny. If it's automatic. If a standard, it's the back up switch, still on the left side!
