I remember this problem when I worked for the Chevy dealership as their diesel mechanic, there was a recall on that truck to replace the pressure regulator these guides can help us fix it, I would clean the throttle body and check for vacuum leaks as well.

Please run down these guides and report back.

Car hesitates sporadically, have recently unplugged the air temperature sensor, found that unplugging it exacerbated the problem. The car stalls when I come to a stop and have the clutch pressed in. It hesitates when I step on the accelerator. Have narrowed it down to something electrical, I think. It comes and goes very quickly. Since I have replaced the temp sensor and it has not solved the problem yet, what is connected to the temp sensor that could cause it to malfunction. What potentially could cause the car to sporadically hesitate given the symptoms?

I have an 02 also with 75,000 miles. My car has only done this twice but it will idle okay but if you give it any gas it will bog down. Also is you idle high 1500 rpm I have read that the Air temp sensor can cause the idle issue. We my have the same problem but mine has not progressed yet. If you found a fix please let me know.

I have a 2001 Chevy Tahoe with 87,000 miles. Within the last 4 to 5 months the SUV has been stalling will at idle or turning in a parking lot. It runs good while driving at a constant speed. However, I do notice the car surging or the RPM jumping as we are traveling. On long trips (250 miles) with AC going, at the end the check engine light will illuminated for a couple of days then disappear. This only happens on long trips. I have changed the fuel filter, air filter, PVC valve, and battery. The only thing I have not changed is the spark plugs. The last couple of days after getting the PVC valve changed the car has died three times each day. I can place the car in neutral and it starts right back up again. Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for the help.

JC

Clean out the throttle bore around the butterfly with a little carb cleaner and a rag. Scan the PCm to get the codes, might give us a place to start. Also might want to go ahead and do the plugs and wires, I suggest A/C Delco parts. One other thing, the fuel pressure regulator is on the fuel rail, D/S and has a vacuum line going up to intake, remove vacuum line after shutting off the engine and look for raw fuel in the line, if present replace the regulator

Recheck the fuel pressure and comeback with the readings

Try cleaning out the idle air control valve and see what happens

Good evening! Today I have noticed my truck now wants to shut off when I come to a full stop. If I start it, it will stay running also as long as my foot is on the accelerator the truck will run. Whenever I go to stop it stalls. Always starts up pretty much right away. The only code I have showing is a po157 which I know is an oxygen sensor. I have had that code on and off for the last six months. Although, I plan on replacing it soon I do not picture that being the reason my truck stopping. Any ideas on what to look for first I would appreciate it? I did look at the wires tonight they do not seem cracked. I also took a spray bottle and check for vacuum leaks. I also sprayed around the spark plug wires to see if it would shut off if there was any kind of moisture in the cap and rotor which nothing happened. The only code that keeps popping is the po157. Do you think this would cause it to stall because of the air mixture or do you think it is something else? Any help would be appreciated.

The fuel pressure reading was 60, changed out the idle air control valve, still won't stay running, but it does fire. Would any of the wiring on the steering column cause it not ot run. Check codes and nothing.

Here is a possibility:

The IAC controls idle.

While it is idling rough (if it will) sometimes a little love tap on its body with a wrench or screwdriver will make a change for the better. This would not be a fix, but rather letting you know you might be on the right trail a bad IAC. You might try removing it and cleaning it and the hole it came out of with throttle body cleaner. This part may be original and has been operating for a long time. It may also be a connection problem, or just is just worn out and defective.

That did not seem to do anything. The truck still runs the same. Also, wanted to give you a heads up if I have it in park and I rev the engine nothing that happens does not shut off keeps running. If I put it in reverse and pull out of the driveway and put my foot on the brake it shuts off so it only seems to do it when it is actively driving otherwise if I leave it running in my yard it will run even after I rev it many times.

When in gear, does it feel like a manual transmission coming to a stop without pressing the clutch? In other words, does the engine bog down till it dies?

Is the security light flashing on dash with the key on or does it go out? Will it run on starter fluid? Does it have spark? Is the check engine light on when in run position?

I have changed the ignition control module, the crankshaft position sensor, the fuel filter, the air filter and the distributor cap. The fuel pump tests out at 65psi solid. I have check for vacuum leaks and tested the coil it was fine.
