If by wrong you mean that when it is out of gas it still reads that it has gas, and it stays on full a long time, or the oppisite.
The gauge assy. In the tank is usually a long stiff wire that has a float on the end. It has to be adjusted or bent so that when the tank is empty the float is almost on the bottom of the tank, when it is full the float raises the wire that connects to the sending unit in the tank that sends to the gauge in the dash. Also make sure you have a good ground between the gauge and the body. You can check the gauge by removing it from the tank. Leave it connected, and lift the float up, and down to see it it works good and steady by watching the gauge on the dash, of course you will have to have some one watch the gauge while you or who ever is lifting the float up and down.
Hope this helps
Good luck
