My moms husband works for an auto parts company. He said that I should never leave my car running for more than five minutes in the morning to warm up. I just noticed tonight that when I dropped everyone off, I electrically rolled up the windows and my interior lights dimmed quite noticebly. I have also for a while noticed the car sounds rough when accelerating. Is this all because I leave my car on for more than five minutes in the morning or just the car actually starting to need new parts?

Actually, your friend is correct. I was taught that if you allow a vehicle with an automatic transmission to idle for extended periods of time, it is hard on the clutches in the transmission. However, that has nothing to do with the electrical problem you are having.

Have you noticed the battery gauge droping lower than usual? Also, I would recommend having the battery and alternator tested to make sure they are doing their job and not getting weak. If you take the car to a nationally recognized parts store, most will check the alt and battery for free, so that is what I suggest you do first. Let me know what you find so I can help with other decisions or questions that you may have.
