I have a transmission that slips really bad in first but eventually shifts up and runs fine. Is this cheaper to turn in and get rebuilt or shoul I just replace transmission myself. Wife took in to a transmission shop and was quoated at $3500 to replace transmission. It doesnt sound right. I just returned home from afghanistan and havent talked to the local shop myself. Sounds fishy is this somethin I should be able to change rather simply?

Hi there,

Although there is no real challenge to replace a transmission if you have reasonable mechanical ability, the down side is that it is very heavy and you may find it a struggle to do it with out a suitable transmission jack, get a manual and have a read up on the transmission section first and decide if you are up to the task.
