I am looking at purchasing a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban and the transmission either the bands are slipping or etc. Could you tell me what might be the problem, and what is involved with fixing it? If the costs are at a minimum I may consider purchasing it. Please advise. This vehicle has been sitting for about a year without starting it. I know it could be many things such as type of fluid used in the past and even filters not being changed in a timely manner, but of course I won't know that without any history so far.

Hi Dennis,

Well, First off I would want to hear it run, Cause if it hasn't been run for a year or more you could be looking at a great deal of work to get it running. And the tranny slipping would be possibly a minor thing like burnt tranny fluid or just low on fluid.

I would highly recommend finding out a history on the vehicle and for it to be running before concidering purchase. Even if the price is low you may end up with a vehicle you cannot get running because of something the owner has neglected to tell you.

I am telling you this from experience with some of my customers and family that have taken the word of the owner that all worked great before letting it sit for 6 month to a year. Only to find out that it had a blown head gasket and or bent valves. And buying a vehicle for $800 - $1,200 and have to spend $2k - $3k to get it running. You know they could have taken that $4,200 and bought a good used car from a used car dealer and have some warrantee.
