The car was running fine. Turned it off for 5 minutes. Tried to start it, it would turn over but not ignite. A guy stopped by to help and he said turn it over and while I did he banged the gas tank with his fist, it work, the thing started. He said the fuel pump is going, got an estimate for $400 to replace it. I've stopped and started it a dozen times since and it hasn't occurred again. Does replacing the fuel pump sound right to you or is there something else to check before committing to replacing it?

It's the fuel pump. Anytime you can bang the tank and it starts up you know to replace the pump. The pump starts to fail and giving it a jolt of vibration sometimes will kick it back in for awhile.
