I have 174000 mi on this truck. At times, it completely dies. Will sometimes start right up again, at other times i'll have to wait abt 10 min. When it dies, I get no check engine lights-everything just turns off. THis does not happen all the time-just every now and then. Hasn't happened at high speeds; just when i'm slowing for a stop or turn or accelerating from a stop. This has been going on for a couple of years. The mechanics can't seem to decide what the problem is-any ideas anyone?I don't want to get rid of the truck if I don't have to!

Is it th engine that dies? Or is it electrical? Oh and do you replace the fuel filters on a regular basis

All I know is that everything turns off-so i'm thinking that it is electrical. Howver, I'm told that something having to do with the fuel intake, etc, could cause the whole thing to turn itself off. It doesn't show up as a problem whenever the mechanics put it on a test monitor.

This is a very broad question and answer, if it dies and the electronics are still lit up like the dash, it may be a fuel issue, I just an injector pump on the same year truck with the same issues, it never just died and not start, oh and you may not know but you power train warranty may still be in effect, check with your dealer on that, but anyway if its electronic or electrical you would have no juice anywhere, fuel or mechanical you should still have all electronics, hop this helps a bit

I know that the gauges on the dash all go to 0, and that I have no power brakes when this happens. The truck just shuts itself off!

It still sounds mechanical, like fuel, the injection pump, best bet may be to wait until it gets worse it would be easier to diagnose

good luck

thanks jim
