Glad to help. Removing the tank is a pain and I wouldn't recommend it unless I was sure. As far as the crank sensor, it is interesting that it should set the check engine light. But for some reason, many times they don't.
Let us know if you have questions in the future. Also, when an engine doesn't start, always check to make sure it has spark and fuel before moving on to other items.
