It went on fine just keeps spinning I do not know what to do. Do I need to take the housing off and break the new filter off?

If it is not leaking don't worry about it, it should mount in a bracket on frame. Also, have you left connectors out or o-rings.

I am changing my fuel filter. How do I release the pressure in my fuel line? Do I need to pull a certain fuse?

Where is the fuel filter located on a 2001 Chevy Silverado? How hard is it to change and does it require any special tools?

The fuel filter is located under the truck on the drivers side chassis chrome in color with a black clamp. Line wrenches would work best any other wrench would round the nuts.

Engine Performance problem
2001 Chevy Silverado V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Can anyone tell me how to replace the fuel filter on my 2001 Silverado? Do I need a special tool to remove the filter and do I need to take the pressure out of the fuel line? Can I take my chances by not relieving the fuel pressure before removing the old fuel filter?

Thank you,

Rick

Yes some for sure depending on the truck had a special tool. Some didnt. Some you could just use wrenchs. As for fuel pressure, I would for SURE relieve the fuel pressure. TRUST ME relive the fuel pressure.

How would I go about relieving the fuel pressure, is there a valve somewhere on the engine I can open to let it out?

The safest way to do it is pull the fuel pump relay and start the vehicle and let it run the rest of the fuel out of the system. Then you will be ready.

If its not in the fuel tank, its in a clip on the inside edge of the frame rail, just about under the drivers seat.

I need to replace the fuel filter in my truck and I was wondering if there is anything vehicle specific that I need to do or know before changing the filter? I am a novice when it comes to vehicle maintenance, but I have been trying to do more of it on my own when maintenance is required so that I can get better and more familiar with it. Thanks for the help!

Adam

Just make sure no fuel pressure on the system before taking any fuel lines loose. Usually after the vehicle sets overnight without the key being cycled there is not much pressure, but, you still need to be aware. Use a catch pan, gas will probably run out of the lines, if too much gas, plug the line until you go back with new filter. Do not work on it in an enclosed area, where there might be a pilot light lit somewhere. If arrow on filter, arrow points to front of vehicle.
Usually with my size, I do not have to raise and support the vehicle to get at the filter, if you do have to raise and support the vehicle, be safe, there are safety issues working under any vehicle.
At the top of page, vehicle repair guides, link. A lot of good information.
