5.3 engine, on a cold start sounds like a lifter clicking but quits after a few minutes. been doing this for about two years. Use penzoil 10-w30 and change regularly. Engine runs fine. Please help

The only way to be sure is to check if there is a loose lifter when it is cold. Steel expands when it gets hot, so that could cause the sound to go away.

Also, often times a slight exhaust leak can cause a tick when the engine is cold. Check the exhaust manifolds for leaks. You may want to use a stethoscope to see if you can hear exactly where the noise is coming from before taking things apart.
