The only way to be sure is to check if there is a loose lifter when it is cold. Steel expands when it gets hot, so that could cause the sound to go away.
Also, often times a slight exhaust leak can cause a tick when the engine is cold. Check the exhaust manifolds for leaks. You may want to use a stethoscope to see if you can hear exactly where the noise is coming from before taking things apart.
