1999 Chevy Silverado Alternator charging backwards?

I put a new alternator in. And it seems too suck power when giving gas, battery gage goes down when giving gas, when idling stays in good range and when in drive battery gage goes low.

Do a battery test
check the volts when car running
its should be about 14.5v
if not alternator no good
