2003 S10 Zr2. A few months ago I would hear a clunk periodically in the front end when it was in 4wd. Recently I noticed occasional "grinding" when putting it in 4wd and it gradually started where it was "grinding" when I was already in 4wd. So I had clunking and grinding in the front end when in 4wd. I determined that my 4wd was not engaging/staying engaged like it should. Now when I put it in 4wd nothing happens. The 4wd lights up but I have nothing. I have a few ideas of what the cause may be but I really dont know a ton about vehicles. Any help would be great.

It is possible it is the electic shift motor on the trasnsfer case, it is located under the shid plate in the front transfer case. To replace it you will need to raise the vehicle, remove the tire on the passengers side. Make sure the battery is disconnected before you start remove the steering nuckle and then the right driveaxle assembly then unplug the 4 wheel drive electrical connections, remove the retaing bolts then carefully remove the output shaft housing, it is somewhat of a job to do so you might consider taking it to a garage and get an estimate on fixing it.

Thanks, it was the shift motor in the transfer case causing the grinding and clunking and also a seal on the vaccuum which was causing it not to engage at all. I brought it to a shop my friend owns and got a good deal on it so it was better than dealing with the frustration myself.
