Sounds like air in the system, start the engine and before it heats up remove the radiator cap. If the fluid level is down fill it up. Let truck run until the fluid starts to circulate, if the level goes down add more coolant. Be careful of splash back. Some cars will get vapor locked, this is a way to help get it out. Rmember be careful around the radiator, I have seen where there was a coolant block and the hot coolant came out of the reaiator. After you can see the coolant flowing, the hoses will get hot then replace the cap with the motor still running, before shutting the truck off make sure the resevoir is full, when the engine cools down it will draw coolant from the resevoir into the engine.
