Have 2000 Chevy with 1998 engine. Engine would not accelerate seems bogged down. Took it to Chevy. They claim that engine is not getting the right air fuel curve( if I drive it hard exhaust manifold get so hot its red) because of 2000 ecu config air erg valve. I've tried going to dyno shops to maybe adjust the air fuel map curve. No luck none of the shops had program to make changes Would getting a 1998 ecu and programming it to a 1998 vin work?

The 98 ecu might work but before you do that check to see if you have a blocked converter. If you have a vacuum gauge check your vacuum at idle, if it's 15" or so then i'd check for blocked converter or exhaust. I'd do that before messing around with fuel curves. The only thing with going to a 98 ecu is that the connectors may not be in the correct places as well not being able to connect to the ecu.

Thanks for the reply.I had already changed converter and muffler. It helped but did not solver the problem. The also changed all sensors, fuel pump. Still slugisg and exhaust manifold turns red hot with bad mpg roughly 17 any other suggestions.

The only thing I can think of is to check the fuel pressure. If the manifold is getting red, then it seems it would be running lean. If it's running lean then it can be an injector problem or low fuel among other things. If you can find someone with a tech 2 they may be able to find out what the real problem is as changing sensors can get very exspensive.
