My S-10 has had trouble starting over the last few months. Its can crank continously on the first attempt and never starts; but if you stop then make a second attempt it usually fires up every time. What could be causing this?

Also, the guages and the radio will shut off spiratically while you are driving. At first I thought it was the altenator, but its been doing this for months and still continues to run. I already replaced the battery and the terminals are down tight. It tends to happen more frequently when I hit bumps- so my guess is a loose wire.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

As far as the starting issue, try cycling the ignition switch, on and off a few times before you crank. It may be taking a bit for the fuel pump to prime the system? Use a gage and check fuel pressure. How long since you changed the fuel filter? Don't take any fuel lines loose unless your sure there is no pressure on the system. The problem my not even be the fuel system, but, you got to start checking, somewhere.
