Jack, Start by making sure the brake fluid is full. If it is, take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. If the light is on, there should be a code stored. Most places will do it for free, so there is no money out of pocket. Also, you can check at each wheel to make sure the sensors are pluged in and not damaged.
