My engine was making weird noises for a couple of days. One day I left walmart and the noise was really loud, I drove a quarter mile and decided to turn off the road and it died. The battery was ok because the lights worked it turned over just would not start. I finally got it to start but it started smoking really bad. So I didnt try to start it again. Why would my truck die like that then start smoking?

Unfortunately its probably dead. A mechanics ear is the best way to tell for sure.

What is dead and do u know why it would be smoking? The battery is not dead because the lights work and the interior lights work.

Im assuming its dead because you said it started making a lot of noise, then it dies then when you got it running again it was smoking. Its very hard to pinpoint exact problem without seeing truck, was it smoking out the tail pipe? Was it smoking from the drive belt area? Try to give me as much detail you can.
