Electrical problem
1994 Chevy S-10 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

94 s-10 2.2L. There is a short somewhere and when you turn the key over the engine light clicks and flickers and all accessories, headlights, radio won't work at all, but, you can turn the steering wheel left or right and the short goes away, and when I try to start the truck, the black wire from the steering harness (under the steering column), which grounds itself, catches fire and melts. Thank you.

Take the steering column covers off and see if any wires are getting caught in the turning parts of the column. ANY wire catching fire, needs to be isolated! Tape it up!

Could it be the ignition switch gone bad? There seems to be no wires being caught and everything looks alright.

Yes sir. I found out that that harness is for the turn signals. The black wire from the bundle that is feeding that harness is the one burning up, along with the one off of the turn signal side that is grounded to the metal on the steering column.

Ususally the black wires are grounds, unless they have a stripe! So this would men a power wire is chaffing with the ground wire and shorting out, unplug the Mutifuntion switch(turn signal) and see if it stops burning, you may need to replace that switch.
