1982 Chevy S-10 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

What is the purpose of the computer chip or circuit board next to the main computer? It looks like a small circuit board or chip. It is connected to some wires to a very small black box. It is located next to main computer underneath the dash on the passenger side. They have told me that might be why my check engine light is on.

If your check engine light is on, cross A&B on the aldl by the steering column under the dash, and count the flashes it will flash 3 times for codes. 1 then 2 +12 then come back to the site here and look under OBD1 trouble codes. It will tell you where the problem is.
