2000 Chevy Prizm engine noise

lately my engine sounds extra loud when i accelerate. Gould it be the muffler is damaged?

If the noise stops when you let off the gas pedal, suspect a problem with the muffler or one of the other pipes. If the noise changes loudness when you turn slightly like when changing lanes on the highway, suspect front wheel bearings. They will sound like an airplane motor. Also, wheel bearings get louder the faster you drive and do not get quiet when you let off the gas pedal.
