Sounds like the first time the car was giving a warning that the starter was going, but to be sure you should do the following first. Make sure the battery is fully charged and that all the connections are clean and tight. Next check to see if you have power going to the solenoid with a 12 volt test lamp or meter. Have someone else turn the key while you check. You should get a light or reading on the meter when they turn the key to the start postion. If you get a reading then the starter needs to be replaced, and if not you have a open circuit between the stater and the igntion switch.
