Hi! I had a head gasket failure because the coolant gummed up and temp gauge didn't work. I had the head surfaced (the guy said he had to cut a good bit off of it). I visually checked the block and didn't see any cracks. Everything looked pretty good. I replaced the gasket and torqued everything to specs, but when I started it up, white smoke is pouring out the back along with a small drip of water. What could I have done wrong?

Thanks is advance. This looks like a great site!

Thats pretty common for white smoke to come out after a head job. Reason is there may be water in the Catylitic converter. If the truck runs smooth and you are sure the gaskets are in properly, try driving the truck for a few miles. Hopefully that will clear whatever water is in the cylinders or exhaust system.

Yes I replaced the sender and it's working. It took a few minutes for the thermostat to open and when it did the temp gauge got up to about 210 when I shut it off. It looked like it was climbing but I'm not sure.

I'll drain the oil this weekend and check it out.
