My daughter ran through a giant pothole in her 1996 Cavalier a few nights ago, and broke the 2 CV axles.
The garage replaced the 2 axles, but one keeps breaking. They replaced it twice.
Once they got almost 1 mile before it broke, the second time, it broke in thier driveway.

The mechanic says it must be something in the suspension, but has no idea what the problem is.

Any ideas?

i would take it to a frame shop and have them check to make sure nothing is bent. the axle could be in a bind.

Check the outer wheel bearing. It might be bad and locking up causing the trans to break the axle

Thanks to everyone for your help!
They actually found the problem today. It was a bent Torque Strut, and transmission mount.
They replaced these two parts, as well as replaced the cv axle again, and it seems to be just fine.
Finally!
