Chevy Van with lagging acceleration

My son had the transmission in his 1990 Chevy G20 van, mileage 120,000, replaced with a rebuilt transmission. After the first job, the transmission barely shifted from gear to gear. So he took it back for more work and now it will shift OK on the flat but shifts slowly and loses acceleration on the hills. I have ridden in the van before and after the transmission replacement and the difference on hills is significant. Aside from killing the mechanic, what are his options? BTW, if I already asked this, I was making a donation and when that was completed, I logged out but didn't remember sending you this question.

Sorry to tell you this, but I would take it back to the shop that did the trans. It might just be a shift point adjustment (throttle Valve cable). Give him a chance to make it good before you go someplace else.

He is not going anywhere else. This is the third time he's had to take it back and we are talking of suing the mechanic. In the last four months, my son has been without his van for six weeks. That is ridiculous. I will pass on your comment but I have a feeling that the trans itself is faulty.
