Engine Performance problem
1986 Chevy Nova 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My car has started running rough, when I put on the gas it wants to die. After I get it going if i try to put on the gas it still seems to want to die so i have to feather the gas peddel untill it catches or something and it will speed up. Its like its fluding it or something so I let off a lil', give it some more gas, let it off and so on untill it gets up to speed. What do I do to get it back to running like normal?

Probable causes-check/test the following:

Oxygen sensor
Catalytic converter
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires
Cap and rotor
