Engine Performance problem
1972 Chevy Nova V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi, I'm an 18 year old kid with an old muscle-car and I'm doing what I can to take care of it. A little while ago my friends told me that whenever I rev the engine and open up the carbeurater (4 barrel) smoke comes from my exhaust. I've looked up the question a little and it can range from my car just running rich to me having to replace my pistons. The color of the smoke is normally white/gray and after I stop and walk around my car, a distinct fuel smell comes from it. My car's been known to run rich before, I just wanted to clear up my concerns. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sounds like its running rich-check the carb. choke plate when engine is fully warmed up should be wide open-if not adjust it, also the carb could be internally leaking, clogged airfilter or weak ignition system.
