Hi,

I have an 02 Malibu and the check engiine light came on. The mechanic ran the computer to check the codes and it came back as a torque problem related to the tranmisiion. It is running well, no problems shifting, not leaking any fluid and not overheating. I would like to know what this could be related to and potentially how expensive it may be. I know the question is vague, but my mechanics transmission guy isn not in until Monday and I am stressed. They also let me drive the car home from the shop. Should I have left it there?

Hi there,

This may be a torque converter lock up clutch, if this is the case you can still drive with out any real problems, what this does is lock the torque converter up so there is no slip in top gear, this is not a transmission clutch slip it is to do with transmitting power to the box through the converter, its all a bit technical, but in essence don't stress, just let me know the actual code to confirm this diagnosis.
