Catalytic Converter

I have a 1997 Chevy Lumina,3.1 V6 180,00 miles...I have a plugged up Cat. Converter and I am planning on removing it and putting a straight pipe in it's place,removing the converter completely from my car.How will this affect my car's performance,if at all.and do i need to reset the codes after doing so?

This will keep poping codes for the 02 sensors and possible if it detects a lack of backpressure. Try it, but I think you'll need to put a converter on! Universals are under 100.00! Then just use a sawzall with steel blade to cut pipes to length...Clamp it on!

not a good idea. you wont gain much horse and it is illegal. just put a new one on and check your sensors since a clogged up cat will fry a the throttle and idle air sensors. if you want more horse, change your air filter to a cone or simply use a flat bed K&N. and yes, oh yes, buy a pair of flowmaster muffs. I got mine installed for $180. cat = $165. in most states, if they catch you without the cat, they'll impound. you'll pay more to get your car back then you would replacing the cat.
