I have a 1997 Chevy Lumina, 3.1 V6 180, 00 miles.I have a plugged up Cat. Converter and I am planning on removing it and putting a straight pipe in it's place, removing the converter completely from my car. How will this affect my car's performance, if at all. And do I need to reset the codes after doing so?

This will keep poping codes for the 02 sensors and possible if it detects a lack of backpressure. Try it, but I think you'll need to put a converter on! Universals are under 100.00! Then just use a sawzall with steel blade to cut pipes to length. Clamp it on!

Not a good idea. You wont gain much horse and it is illegal. Just put a new one on and check your sensors since a clogged up cat will fry a the throttle and idle air sensors. If you want more horse, change your air filter to a cone or simply use a flat bed K&N. And yes, oh yes, buy a pair of flowmaster muffs. I got mine installed for $180. Cat = $165. In most states, if they catch you without the cat, they'll impound. You'll pay more to get your car back then you would replacing the cat.
